# Generic MRI SOP

#### Pre-Scan Setup

* Obtain Study ID from study coordinator
* Greet and prep participant
  * Greet the participant, escort them to reserved screening room, and briefly describe the scanning procedure
  * Assess their level of comfort
* Have they had an MRI before? Do they have a history of claustrophobia?
  * Have the participant fill out the MRI Screening form
  * Have the participant remove any metal they are wearing and place it in a belongings bag (beside the lockers)
  * Jewelry, cellphone, watch, belt, etc.
* Provide participant with MRI-safe glasses if needed
* Ask the participant if they would like a CD copy of their scan (let the MRI tech know if so)
* Ask the participant if they need to use the restroom before starting

#### 3T Prisma Scan

* Ensure that all pre-scan procedures were taken care of and give MRI screening form to MRI tech
  * De-metaling, MRI Screening Form, MRI-safe glasses, personal items locked up, confirm scan details and length, offer to use the restroom
* Set up computer while MRI tech is loading participant into scanner
  * Log on to MRI console
  * Open files specific to study
* Ensure that participant is comfortable and able to begin scan
  * To speak with participants in the scanner from the console, hold down talk button on microphone
  * Be sure to turn up the volume on their mic in order to hear their response
* Remind the participant to relax and ask if they can see the images on the screen
* If needed, provide the MRI tech with Study ID and protocol number

#### Scan Procedures

* Check in with participant. Make sure they can hear you and are comfortable.&#x20;
* Be sure to check in between sequences.
